Keith and Claudia Ross bought Ross Ranch in Knights Valley, in northeastern Sonoma County, in 2018: 20 acres of volcanic soil and old oak trees. Their winemaking began in 2003 with 90 Syrah vines in their front yard in Lafayette and a garage winery where they blended, bottled and corked every case by hand. At the ranch they cleared the land and planted the vines themselves, and they say it is still just the two of them, with no ranch hands and no outside winemaker.
The ranch has nearly 10 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in its Barn and Creek blocks, planted to clones 4 and 7 on 3309 rootstock and farmed with Alex and Ben Vyborny of Vyborny Vineyard Management. Current wines include an Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, a Ranch Red and Sauvignon Blanc, with Vintners Cut bottlings of each, priced from about $35 to $95. The ranch also raises Black Angus cattle and grows an organic garden.
There is no tasting room and no published visiting program; a farm-to-table experience is listed as coming soon. The wines are sold online and through the Double R Club. The day below starts at the Calistoga end of Napa Valley, minutes from Knights Valley, with a cave estate in Knights Valley itself and two historic Calistoga wineries.
Ross Ranch does not offer public tastings.
On the day below, tastings are $150 at Knights Bridge, $65 at Chateau Montelena and $100 at Schramsberg, paid directly to each winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Ross Ranch does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Chateau de Vie, on Highway 128 toward Knights Valley, is about 10 minutes from the first stop, and Solage about 15. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 10 to 15 minutes away. An organically farmed hillside estate with caves and a Backen-designed winery in Knights Valley, the same small appellation as Ross Ranch. The Knights Bridge Estate Experience, a guided tour of the vineyard, winery and caves with a seated tasting, is $150, prepaid, about two hours. By appointment only.
About 20 minutes away. Lunch at Solbar at Solage, with seasonal Napa Valley cooking and a patio by the pool. We confirm hours when we book. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. The Calistoga estate whose Chardonnay beat the French in 1976. The walk-in tasting is $65, about 45 minutes; walk-ins are taken for the standard tasting until 2:30 p.m., and tours are by reservation.
About 15 minutes away. America's sparkling wine pioneer, with hillside caves dug in the 1870s. The cave tour with the classic tasting is $100, about an hour. By appointment only.
Back by about 4:25 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.
Schramsberg sets its tour times, so the afternoon order may shift once it confirms. For a lighter day, Schramsberg's tasting-only visit ($70 to $80) skips the cave tour.
About $315 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
