About the Winery
Puppione Family Wines is a small family winery based in Forestville. It launched in 2017 with, as the family puts it, two barrels, one ton of fruit and a little help from friends, and the first wine was made to welcome the family's daughter. Chris, Dee, Ariya and Soren make the wine together each year, and each vintage records a family story.
The wines carry Italian names and family names: the MAGARI and JUVENTAS cuvées of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the STRETTA DI MANO Cabernet Sauvignon, the FESTA Bianco of Friulano, and the MAESTRI field blend of Zinfandel and Primitivo, among others. Fruit comes from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards in places like Alexander Valley, the Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley.
There is no tasting room. Private tastings are held in Sonoma County by request, which makes this a personal visit with the family rather than a tasting bar. We send the request at least a week ahead and confirm the details when we book.

About 10 minutes away. Library tastings and a kitchen of its own on a historic Forestville winery property on Highway 116, open from 11:30 a.m. The Wine Tasting Flight is $20 to $30; plan on about an hour.

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Handline on the south side of Sebastopol, a casual spot for seasonal food made with Sonoma County produce and Sonoma Coast seafood. We confirm hours when we book. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 10 minutes away. A grower and a winemaker's partnership in cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Farmer's Flight of five Dutton Ranch wines, or the seated Discovery Tasting, is $35; plan on about 60 minutes.

Puppione tastings depend on the family's availability and need at least a week's notice, so we confirm that appointment first and adjust the day around it. Russian River Vineyards opens at 11:30 a.m. daily, and Dutton-Goldfield is open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
About $55 to $65 per person in tasting fees for Russian River Vineyards and Dutton-Goldfield, plus the Puppione fee, which we confirm when we book. Fees are paid directly to each winery.
