John Pearce is a serial entrepreneur with decades in the restaurant business, where he wrote wine lists and sat in on hundreds of tastings. In 2019 he met winemaker Michael Scorsone, the two became friends over a shared love of wine, and their conversations turned into the winery John had long dreamed of.
Scorsone fell for wine at the Culinary Institute of America, started at Neyers Vineyards and has made highly rated wines from all over Sonoma and Napa, including Cabernet Sauvignon from the Beckstoffer vineyards. The first release was Carpe Vinum, and the range now includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from high-elevation vineyards, aged in French oak.
A visit is unhurried: a full 90-minute tasting at the family's home winery, a guided tour through the barrel room, and a glass on the stone patio looking out over the vineyard. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic and eat while they taste, which is one of the nicer ways to spend the middle of a day here.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Each appointment is a 90-minute tasting with a guided barrel room tour.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
