About the Winery

Gerry and Diane Pasterick bought this 17-acre hillside property on West Dry Creek Road in 1999 and made their first vintage in 2000. Their daughter Alexis was 16 when the winery began; she helped after school for years and joined full time in 2013. Today Gerry and Alexis make the wine together and are often the ones pouring in the cave.

The vineyard was first planted in the early 1900s, and the family has grown it to 10 acres in six small blocks of Syrah and five of Viognier, on slopes of 20% to 45%. The estate has two distinct hills, one of red volcanic clay and one of ancient granite, planted to the same Chapoutier clone of Syrah; the wines from each are aged apart and blended just before bottling. Production is about 1,000 cases, made in the Northern Rhône way: the Estate Syrah spends three years in large French oak puncheons, the Angle of Repose Syrah four, and every bottle is hand-dipped in wax. The vineyard has been certified sustainable since 2012.

The heart of the place is the wine cave, dug in 2007 into a hillside of 125-million-year-old granite, where the wines ferment and age and where guests taste. Around it the ranch has olive trees, fruit trees, a vegetable and cut-flower garden, antique roses and a "Magic Forest" of bay, oak, fir and redwood. Guests love tasting Syrah in the cave where it was made.
