Patz & Hall

About the Winery

Donald Patz, James Hall, Anne Moses and Heather Patz founded Patz & Hall in 1988, and their first wine was a 1988 Napa Valley Chardonnay. The winery made its name buying fruit from top growers and bottling it vineyard by vineyard. In 2024 founding winemaker James Hall bought Patz & Hall back, returning it to independent hands after eight years of corporate ownership.

The focus is still Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from long-standing grower partners, with sparkling wine as well. James McCeney, hand-picked by Hall as his successor, is director of winemaking, and the new era has been about strengthening those grower relationships and careful cellar work rather than growth.

In October 2026 Patz & Hall is opening its new Sonoma House, a bungalow just off the Sonoma Plaza. Guests can start at the tasting bar with the Bungalow Flight, sit down for the Site Survey of single-vineyard wines, go deep into the library at the Vintner's Cellar Table, or celebrate with sparkling wine and caviar. Being right in town, it is an easy first stop before we head into the hills.

Tasting Fees

$20 for the Bungalow Flight at the tasting bar. $40 for the Site Survey single-vineyard tasting. $75 for the Vintner's Cellar Table, a private library tasting. $125 for Bubbles & Caviar.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About $175 to $185 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
