Cindy Cosco's uncommon Italian and European grape varieties, poured at a creekside wine bar with a big deck in Jack London Village, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Cindy Cosco started in wine in 2004 at Chateau St. Jean and took enology classes at Napa Valley College. In 2007 she became lab manager at Crush Pad, a custom-crush winery in San Francisco, where she went on to lead the white wine program, and she began Passaggio there with 50 cases of unoaked Chardonnay, still her flagship. The name is Italian for passageway, a tribute to her great-grandfather, who came to the United States in 1902, and to her own path into wine.
Passaggio opened a tasting room on the Sonoma Plaza in 2014, and in 2016 Cindy launched her own production. She makes about 1,700 cases a year of sparkling, white and red wines from vineyards she chooses herself, working hands on from pressing to bottling, and she leans toward grapes most people have never tasted: Fiano from Albini Vineyards, Nebbiolo Bianco, a white Merlot, Alicante Bouschet, a rare grape with red flesh, and a blend of Aglianico, Cabernet Franc, Alicante and Teroldego. There is also Chardonnay fermented in a concrete egg, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, rosés and a sparkling Tannat. The style is lighter, made for the table.
The wine bar is in historic Jack London Village, among mature trees where a creek runs into Sonoma Creek, with seats inside and on a large outdoor deck. It is deliberately casual: you can taste, or sit with a glass or a bottle and order food from The Mill at Glen Ellen or Yeti, the restaurants in the village. Passaggio now pours five other small wineries too, and Cindy also offers private tastings at a vineyard, on the Sonoma Plaza or in your home.
$20 per person for a tasting at the wine bar. Private tastings are quoted when booked.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Ledson Hotel, on the east side of the Sonoma Plaza, and MacArthur Place, a few blocks south of the plaza, are each about 5 minutes from Sojourn Cellars, the first stop. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 5 minutes away. Craig Haserot and Erich Bradley's small Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet house, which began in 2001 with about a hundred cases of Cabernet and now sells mostly to its allocation list. The seated Comparative Tasting sets the same grape from different regions side by side, about an hour ($45). By appointment, daily from 10 a.m.; reservations prepaid online.
About 25 minutes away. A tasting at the creekside wine bar ($20), about an hour, with time on the deck.
About 25 minutes away. Sondra Bernstein's restaurant on the Sonoma Plaza, serving French country cooking from a seasonal menu, with cheese and charcuterie, a Rhône-focused wine list and a garden patio. Open from 11:30 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 5 minutes away. The Sonoma salon of Platt Vineyard, planted in 2003 by former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Lewis Platt among the redwoods of the West Sonoma Coast and owned since 2022 by AXA Millésimes, the French owner of Château Pichon Baron. The private, seated Monopole Reserve Tasting of four estate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays is $75, about 90 minutes. By appointment, Tuesday to Saturday.
Back in Sonoma by 3:40 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Passaggio pours Friday to Sunday (by appointment Monday to Wednesday, closed Thursday) and Platt's salon is open Tuesday to Saturday, so this day works on a Friday or Saturday; on other days we adjust the order.
