Chalk Hill · Sonoma County
A 710-acre estate between Windsor and Healdsburg with 16 grape varieties and lunch on the terrace, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Grapes have grown on this land since 1869, and commercially for wine since 1907. Bob and Renée Stein bought the estate in 1992, and in 2012 they revived Balverne, a label from the property that was poured at the White House in the 1980s, alongside their own Notre Vue wines. Bob Stein died in 2021; Renée and Jared Stein own the estate today.
The estate covers 710 acres in the Russian River Valley and Chalk Hill appellations, with 250 acres of certified sustainable vineyard and 350 acres permanently protected as open space. Sixteen grape varieties grow here, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the lower ground and Bordeaux varieties higher up, including some European varieties rarely planted in Sonoma County. Molly Lippitt is the winemaker.
Tastings are outdoors on the Block 23 Terrace and at the Lakeside Pavilion, looking over the vineyards and oak woodland. The Terrace Tasting Flight pours five estate wines, and the Terrace Lunch adds a sandwich, salad and dessert to the flight, which makes Notre Vue an easy place to spend the middle of the day.
$25 for the Terrace Tasting Flight of five estate wines, about 90 minutes, with an optional charcuterie board for $30. From $60 for the Terrace Lunch with Estate Flight Tasting, about two hours, Thursday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
