About the Winery

Michael Muscardini's grandfather made wine in Italy before emigrating to America in 1909, and Michael founded Muscardini Cellars to carry that on and to celebrate family, fellowship and Italian culture. Long stays in Tuscany shaped the wines, and his first blend of Sangiovese, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, Tesoro, named in his grandfather's honor, became the winery's flagship.

Michael has spent years building ties with Sonoma growers, and the wines are mostly single-vineyard, limited-production bottlings: Sangiovese, Barbera, Brunello-style wines and Super Tuscan-style blends, plus other varieties made the Italian way. Many vintages of Tesoro have earned 90-point ratings and Best of Class awards. The winery also makes its own grappa and a wine-infused salami.

The tasting room is inside a historic schoolhouse on the Sonoma Highway, with a patio and a backyard where picnics are welcome. All Things Italian is the visit to book: a tour, tasting and pairing that moves from aperitivo through current and library wines to grappa, with salami, cheese and olive oil along the way. Guests who want to roll up their sleeves can book Blend Your Bottle, a hands-on blending session where you make your own Super Tuscan-style blend and design its label.

Tasting Fees

$40 for the Classico Tasting, daily (a charcuterie board adds $35). $75 for All Things Italian, a private tour, tasting and pairing. $95 for Blend Your Bottle, a private blending session. Prices include tax.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

All Things Italian: a tour, tasting and pairing from aperitivo to grappa, with wine-infused salami, cheese and olive oil ($75). We plan about 90 minutes.

1:05 · Lunch at Salt+Stone

About 5 minutes away. A steakhouse, seafood grill and oyster bar among the vineyards on the Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, with craft cocktails and tables overlooking a koi pond. Lunch is served Thursday to Tuesday. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:50 · Bartholomew Estate Winery

About 35 minutes away. Owned by the nonprofit Bartholomew Foundation, inside a 375-acre park on the land where Agoston Haraszthy began making wine in 1857, and named by the San Francisco Chronicle one of the 15 most beautiful wineries in Napa and Sonoma. The seated Wine Tasting Flight is $45 to $55, about 1 hour 15 minutes, in the art gallery or, April to October from Friday to Sunday, outdoors on the Oak Knoll over the vineyards. Reservations highly recommended; open daily 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
