Nan McEvoy, a granddaughter of San Francisco Chronicle founder M.H. de Young and later chairman of the newspaper's board, founded McEvoy Ranch in 1990 on a former dairy farm in the hills west of Petaluma. Inspired by Tuscan olive oil, she imported 1,000 olive seedlings from Italy. Her son Nion McEvoy became owner and CEO in 2014, and his adult children now help run the ranch.
The ranch covers 550 acres near the Sonoma-Marin line, and only about a tenth of it is planted, to organic olive orchards, fruit and gardens. The olives are pressed in the ranch's own mill, and its certified organic extra virgin olive oil is what made McEvoy's name; the wines are small-lot bottlings.
Tastings are served on a stone patio looking over a pond and olive-covered hills, with wine flights of Vermentino, Viognier, Pinot Noir and Syrah and olive oil tastings with Della Fattoria bread. Guided tours walk through the orchards to the upper ranch and the mill, past sculpture and paintings from the family's collection.
$30 to $48 for wine flights and $35 for an olive oil tasting with Della Fattoria bread. $55 for the daily 11 a.m. public walking tour, 90 minutes, and $95 for a private walking tour or the 75-minute cart tour. $25 for the 30-minute olive oil mill tour.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
