Christopher Creek's first grapes were planted in 1972, and the winery opened in 1974. In 2012 the Foppoli family and a few close friends bought it. The family's winemaking in America goes back five generations to Giuseppe Foppoli, who made a private label in San Francisco's North Beach and sold it only to a select list of customers and the two private social clubs he ran.
The estate covers 11 rolling acres in the Russian River Valley planted to Syrah and Petite Sirah, with another 15 acres high on Bradford Mountain in Dry Creek Valley for Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Chardonnay. The vines planted in 1972 still go into the Reserve Petite Sirah and Reserve Syrah, and the winery says this warmer northern corner of the appellation grows some of the area's best of both. Production is around 4,000 cases a year, all hand-harvested.
The winery sits on a hilltop a few minutes from downtown Healdsburg, and guests taste in a rustic tasting room or poolside on the patio, looking over the vineyards. Tastings are guided and personal, with a rotating selection that can include Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. The old-vine Petite Sirah is the wine to ask about.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About 25 minutes away. The Amador family's estate on the stretch of Westside Road locals call the Miracle Mile, named for Gracianna Lasaga, a French Basque ancestor, with estate Pinot Noir from the Mercedes Riverblock on the bank of the Russian River. Every tasting is seated outdoors among the family-designed buildings and gardens, about 75 minutes: six wines for $30 or eight or more for $45, each waived with a purchase. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 1 to November 30; appointments appreciated.
About 20 minutes away. There has been a bakery on this stretch of Healdsburg Avenue since 1923, and the Seppi family has run it as Costeaux since 1981. We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 25 minutes away. The Stein family's 710-acre estate between Windsor and Healdsburg, in the Russian River Valley and Chalk Hill appellations, with 16 grape varieties and tastings outdoors on the Block 23 Terrace or at the Lakeside Pavilion, looking over vineyards and oak woodland. The Terrace Tasting Flight of five estate wines is $25, about 90 minutes. Open Thursday to Monday from 11 a.m., last reservation mid-afternoon; reservations recommended.
Back in Healdsburg by 4:45 p.m.
