About the Winery

James Maclan was founded by a veteran and lifelong viticulturist to bring the neighborhoods of the Russian River Valley to the glass. The label is veteran owned and operated and donates $1 from every bottle sold to local veteran organizations. All of its wines are grown, crushed, aged and bottled in Sonoma County.

The focus is Pinot Noir from sustainably farmed Russian River Valley vineyards, made with hand-harvested fruit, partial whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts and custom French oak. Current releases include The Good Line, clone 115 from the Orsi Vineyard on the Santa Rosa Plains; Quiet Water, Pommard and 667 clones from Hogan's Run Vineyard in the Middle Reach; and the Winemaker's Reserve "Willys," Pommard clone from Hogan's Run.

There is no tasting room or address for visits. James Maclan sells through its online store and wine club and has poured at events such as World of Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara and the Tiburon Wine Festival. The day below goes to three estates around Santa Rosa that do host, two of them on the Santa Rosa Plains.

Tasting Fees

James Maclan does not offer tastings. On the day below, the tasting fees are $30 at Balletto, $45 at DeLoach and $35 at Matanzas Creek, about $110 per person in all, paid directly to each winery.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
