About the Winery

DuMOL began in 1996, by the winery's own account as a hobby for three friends. Since 1999 the wines have been made under Andy Smith, born in Edinburgh, trained at Lincoln University in New Zealand and seasoned at Dry River, Littorai and Paul Hobbs; today he is chief winegrower and proprietor, working with winemaker Jenna Davis.

Smith calls DuMOL a vineyard-up winery. It farms small parcels across more than two dozen sites, with Pinot Noir concentrated in the cool Green Valley and Sonoma Coast areas of western Sonoma County, and an organically farmed DuMOL Estate vineyard. Crews pick at night, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., to bring the fruit in cool, and the wines are raised in barrels from a handful of artisan coopers. Critics including The Wine Advocate and Lisa Perrotti-Brown have praised recent vintages, and most of the wine goes to members in four releases a year.

There is no showy tasting room. Guests sit at the DuMOL Table, a private tasting area inside the production winery in Windsor, with a first-hand view of the work going on around them and, at some times of year, a tour of the cellar. The In Good Time tasting is the one collectors love: three current wines poured beside library bottlings of the same wines, to show how they age.

Tasting Fees

$90 per person for Focused Here, five current and limited wines with a focus on the DuMOL Estate. $125 per person for In Good Time, three current releases beside three library wines. Both for 1 to 6 guests.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

10:00 · Pickup at Vinarosa or Hotel Healdsburg

Vinarosa, set among 92 acres of vineyards in Santa Rosa, is about 15 minutes from DuMOL, and Hotel Healdsburg, on the town plaza, about 20. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:20 · DuMOL

The first stop. Focused Here ($90) at the DuMOL Table inside the winery, or In Good Time ($125) with library wines; we allow about 75 minutes.

11:50 · Foppiano Vineyards

About 15 minutes away. One of Sonoma County's oldest family-founded wineries, bought by Giovanni Foppiano in 1896, and a pioneer of Petite Sirah, first released here in 1967. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic to the grounds. Open Wednesday to Monday; we request the tasting for you and confirm the fee when we book.

1:00 · Lunch at Little Saint

About 10 minutes away. A plant-based restaurant, coffee bar and wine lounge on North Street in downtown Healdsburg, from owners Laurie and Jeff Ubben, with a farm of its own. Open daily from 8 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:35 · Bricoleur Vineyards

About 25 minutes away. A family estate in Windsor, opened in 2020, with a stone pavilion, culinary gardens and lawns where children and dogs are welcome. Soaring pairs three wines with small seasonal bites from the estate and local farms for $75; most tastings take about 90 minutes. Open Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., last seating at 4.

4:05 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg or Santa Rosa by 4:30 p.m.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Foppiano is closed on Tuesdays and Bricoleur on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so this day works Thursday to Monday, and it ends around 4:30.

About $165 to $200 per person in tasting fees for DuMOL and Bricoleur; Foppiano's fee is to be verified upon reservation. Each is paid directly to the winery.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
