Dane Cellars is the label of Bart Hansen, its owner and winemaker, who started with a crush job at Kenwood Vineyards in 1986 and worked his way up to manage the barrel cellar there. In 1998 he became associate winemaker at Benziger Family Winery in Glen Ellen, where he first worked with biodynamic and organic farming, and in 2007 he joined Lasseter Family Vineyards. Dane Cellars opened the same year and is named for his son, Dane, born in 2007.
The wines are handcrafted from Sonoma Valley vineyards, among them Gehricke Road, Los Chamizal, Justi Creek, Jackknife Corner and Francesco Vineyards.
Tastings are hosted by Bart in the Tank Room, a redwood tank that the winery traces to Joshua Chauvet's stone winery and distillery, begun in Glen Ellen in 1856 and later known as Jack London Village. The tank was taken apart and moved across the road, and it now serves as the tasting room. Guests choose to taste inside the round tank itself (standing, up to 6), on the patio outside (seated, up to 4) or at the Winemaker's Round Table in the winemaker's office (seated, up to 8). We confirm current details when we book.
Dane Cellars does not publish its tasting fee. The fee is confirmed when we book.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
