Centennial Mountain Vineyard

About the Winery

Centennial Mountain is the work of Kevin Harvey and his team at Rhys Vineyards, which has made Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from coastal mountain vineyards since 2004. Before planting, the team studied Italian viticulture and established two vineyards on Mount Etna in Sicily, then established Centennial Mountain on a Sonoma County ridgeline in 2013. Javier Tapia is viticulturist and general manager, Jeff Brinkman director of winemaking and Eric Prahl winemaker.

The vineyard sits 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean at more than 2,000 feet, on well-drained Franciscan shale, schist and quartz. It is planted to Nebbiolo and to Carricante and Nerello Mascalese, the white and red grapes grown on Mount Etna for millennia, and the winery says its Carricante and Nerello Mascalese are the only ones grown in the United States.

The tasting room on Healdsburg Avenue is the easy way to taste something genuinely new in Sonoma County. Flights run from the Centennial Mountain wines to Rhys Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, side by side, and from Thursday to Saturday there is a wine and sushi pairing. For a deeper look, the winemaker or viticulturist leads a four-hour Private Vineyard Experience on select Fridays and Saturdays, with a drive up to the vineyard, a tasting and a picnic lunch.

Tasting Fees

Flights from $30 to $50: the Centennial Mountain Vineyard Flight is $35, Introduction to Rhys Vineyards $40, Centennial Mountain x Rhys $45 and Rhys Vineyards: Dive Deeper $50. The wine and sushi pairing is $65, Thursday to Saturday. The Private Vineyard Experience is $150 per person, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on select Fridays and Saturdays.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a Healdsburg hotel such as Hotel Healdsburg or Harmon Guest House.

10:00 · Pickup at Hotel Healdsburg or Harmon Guest House

Hotel Healdsburg, on the town plaza, and Harmon Guest House, a boutique hotel just off the plaza, are each about 5 minutes from the Centennial Mountain tasting room on Healdsburg Avenue. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:05 · Centennial Mountain

A flight of Centennial Mountain and Rhys wines, about an hour ($30 to $50).

11:25 · A. Rafanelli

About 20 minutes away. One of Dry Creek Valley's most sought-after Zinfandel houses: the Rafanelli family has grown grapes and made wine here since the early 1900s, now in its fourth generation, and sells mostly to its A. List, which keeps a waiting list. A casual, personal tasting is $25, for parties of 6 or fewer. By appointment only; days and hours change with the seasons.

12:30 · Lunch at Dry Creek General Store

About 5 minutes away. A country store since 1881 at the crossroads of Dry Creek Valley, with a deli for sandwiches, soups and salads, a front porch over the valley and a garden out back. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:00 · Unti Vineyards

About 5 minutes away. George and Linda Unti planted here in 1990 and started the winery in 1997; the family farms about 60 organic acres of Italian and Rhône varieties, from Sangiovese and Montepulciano to Fiano. You choose six wines and your host explains where each variety comes from in Europe and how Unti grows it here. $25, waived with a bottle purchase. By reservation daily, tastings starting on the hour from 10 a.m.

3:00 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg by 3:15 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Centennial Mountain does not publish its hours and A. Rafanelli sets its hours by season, so we confirm both times when we book.

About $80 to $100 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
