BobDog Wines sits in the middle of Sky Pine Vineyards, about 2,000 feet above the Alexander Valley on Pine Mountain, north of Cloverdale. The winery calls itself the highest winery in Sonoma County and the only winery in the Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak appellation. Tim and Kandy Ward left Silicon Valley and bought the 40-acre estate in 1989, and the winery is named for Bob, the family's Rottweiler, who arrived in 1995 as the vineyard was getting started.
The 15 acres of steep mountain vines are all red Bordeaux varieties, farmed in 12 blocks of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Much of the fruit is sold to other wineries, and the rest goes into the BobDog and Sky Pine Vineyards wines. As the winery puts it, it is all mountain and all red.
Visits are personal vineyard and winery tours by reservation, hosted by the owners: wine education from the vines to the bottle, panoramic views, and a tasting that includes barrel samples from aging vintages. Depending on the season, guests may walk the vineyard, taste grapes or see winter pruning. We confirm current tour details when we book.
BobDog does not publish a fee for its vineyard and winery tour with tasting. The fee is confirmed when we book.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Good to Know
The winery is about 15 minutes up a mountain road from the Citrus Fair exit in Cloverdale, so we allow extra driving time. Tours are outdoors in the vineyard as well as in the winery, so wear comfortable shoes. The winery also offers custom bottling and private labels on select vintages.
Pickup at 10:20 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Geyserville Inn. BobDog is about 30 minutes north, the last part up a mountain road.
BobDog Wines is about 30 minutes from Geyserville Inn, north on Highway 101 to Cloverdale and then about 15 minutes up Pine Mountain. The winery suggests an 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. start for its tours, so the day begins with the late-morning tour and finishes in Geyserville. Extra time can be added by the hour.

Back by 4:20 p.m., six hours after pickup.
BobDog does not publish its tour days, so we confirm the time first; the winery notes that harvest can limit visits. Trentadue is closed Tuesday and Francis Ford Coppola is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, so the day above suits Thursday to Monday. Midweek we swap in other Geyserville wineries that are open.
About $50 per person in tasting fees for Trentadue and Francis Ford Coppola, plus BobDog's tour fee, which we confirm when we book. Fees are paid directly to each winery.
