Augur Wine Co. is the label of Maz Naba, who had the idea for it in 2014 on a beach in Santa Cruz and made his first vintage in 2016. He named it for good omens and the foretelling of great events, partly in tribute to his mother, Tina. Wine Enthusiast named Maz one of its 40 Under 40 Tastemakers in 2016, and his site says he also works as a wine and service director in San Francisco restaurants and on the wine team at The Matheson in Healdsburg.
Augur sources only from single vineyards in coastal and cool-climate regions that are certified organic or farmed the same way, and every fermentation is spontaneous with low intervention. Sources have included Three Oaks Vineyard and Sundowner Ranch in Sonoma's Bennett Valley and Sonoma Mountain area for Syrah, Trails End Vineyard in Mendocino's Potter Valley, and Parvaneh Vineyard in Paso Robles. The wines carry names to match, such as Soothsayer Sauvignon Blanc, The Hook Rosé of Syrah, Presage Syrah and Auspice Cabernet Franc.
There is no tasting room, and Augur does not receive visitors. Wines go to the mailing list and the wine club, whose members can pick up at member events. The day below starts in Windsor and finishes with lunch at The Matheson and a Westside Road Pinot house, with three estates that do host.
Augur Wine Co. does not offer tastings.
On the day below, tastings are $50 at Martinelli, $30 at Seghesio and $35 at Twomey Healdsburg, paid directly to each winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
