Allen Vineyards sits on a 50-acre parcel on Westside Road near the Russian River. Howie Allen, a Marin real estate businessman, bought it in the early 1960s as a homestead farm with a prune orchard, a neglected vineyard and a sheep pasture. With neighboring grower Joe Rochioli as his partner, the first 10 acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay went in during the early 1970s. Today there are 28 planted acres, farmed by Joe's son Tom Rochioli.
The early fruit went to Korbel and Gallo, and in the late 1970s and early 1980s winemakers including Burt Williams, Ed Selyem, Gary Farrell and Davis Bynum made wines from it. In the mid-1980s Howie turned a barn on the ranch into a winery where Burt and Ed made wine rent-free. The third generation, Camille Allen and her husband Matthew Casalenuovo, now make their own Allen Vineyard Pinot Noir.
The site offers no tastings or visits; it asks people to join the mailing list for future releases. The day below starts at neighboring J. Rochioli, whose family helped plant Allen Vineyard and farms it today, and stays on Westside Road.
Allen Vineyards does not offer tastings. On the day below, the tasting fees are $25 at Rochioli, $40 at Bacigalupi and $55 at Gary Farrell, about $120 per person in all, paid directly to each winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
