About the Winery

ACTA is short for Acta non verba, Latin for "deeds, not words", the creed the winery runs on: no hyperbole, just doing each step well. The estate was the end of a long, deliberate search for land the owners could preserve for their families, with the climate, soil and water for a serious vineyard that could be farmed organically. They found it in Alexander Valley just south of Jimtown: 16 acres with an existing winery and hospitality center that needed care. A two-year project begun in 2021 upgraded the buildings, re-established the garden and olive grove and rehabilitated the vineyards.

ACTA makes just under 2,000 cases a vintage, from as little as 50 to 400 cases of each wine. The range is wide on purpose: rosé from the estate vineyards, Sauvignon Blanc from the terraces of Story Creek on Westside Road, Russian River Valley Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon from the Chalk Hill side of Alexander Valley, two Napa Valley Cabernets from Yountville and Atlas Peak, and DEEDS, a Right Bank Bordeaux-inspired blend made entirely from Alexander Valley grapes. An estate old-vine Zinfandel from the rehabilitated 1939 block is on the way.

Guests arrive at the farm and garden end of the property, beside the 1939 Zinfandel vines the team nursed back to life simply so visitors could see them. Inside the new tasting lounge, a vine from a 1925 block that has since been removed hangs from the vaulted ceiling as a light fixture, and there is a private wine cellar, a third-floor viewing tower and a patio with 360-degree views of the valley. Tastings are seated and hosted, and in season there are woodfire flatbreads from the outdoor kitchen, made with estate olive oil and produce from the organic gardens, and winemaker-hosted barrel tastings in the Wine Library cave after harvest.

Tasting Fees

$50 for the Founders Tasting, about 90 minutes: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and DEEDS, with the two limited Cabernets added for $30 more. $60 for Small Production Reds, about 90 minutes, ending with the Chalk Hill and Yountville Cabernets side by side. Seasonal flatbread and barrel tastings: fees to be verified upon reservation.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a Healdsburg hotel such as Hotel Healdsburg or h2hotel.

10:00 · Pickup at Hotel Healdsburg or h2hotel

Hotel Healdsburg, on the town plaza, and h2hotel, a green-roofed hotel just off the Healdsburg plaza, are each about 20 minutes from ACTA, out along Highway 128 into Alexander Valley. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:20 · ACTA

The seated Founders Tasting, about 90 minutes ($50), with the two limited Cabernets for $30 more.

12:05 · Trentadue Winery

About 15 minutes away. Leo and Evelyn Trentadue left their orchards in what is now Silicon Valley for this Alexander Valley ranch in 1959, and the second generation runs it today, with estate vines dating back to 1886. The highlight is the gondola tour, a 15 to 20 minute ride through the vineyards behind a tractor that ends in a seated tasting of the estate's best wines ($40, by appointment for 6 to 16 guests, weather permitting); the Estate Wine Tasting of five small-production wines is $25. Open Wednesday to Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; reservations highly recommended.

1:20 · Lunch at Diavola

About 10 minutes away. Chef Dino Bugica's restaurant in a historic building on Geyserville Avenue, with Neapolitan-style pizza from a wood-burning oven, handmade pasta and house-cured salumi. Lunch is served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

3:00 · Robert Young Estate Winery

About 10 minutes away. Six generations of the Young family have farmed this Alexander Valley ranch since 1858; Robert Young planted Cabernet Sauvignon here in 1963, which the family counts as the first in the valley, and his son Fred founded the estate winery in 1997. Tastings are seated on the back terrace of the Scion House, looking out over the valley: the Estate Flight is $50 and the Scion Experience of single-block reserve wines with light bites $85, each 90 minutes, at 11 a.m., 1 or 3 p.m. By appointment, Wednesday to Monday.

4:30 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg by 4:55 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Robert Young seats tastings at 11, 1 and 3, so the day ends around 5 p.m. It works Thursday to Sunday, when ACTA is open.

About $125 to $140 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
