Ottawa-born entrepreneur Patrice Breton founded Vice Versa after learning winemaking at the side of Paul Hobbs, and 2024 marked its 22nd vintage in Napa Valley. He and his wife Samantha, a pharmacist who left her practice in 2019 to work in the winery, moved to the valley full time in 2013. The winery calls its values anti-corporate and anti-pretense, and the team looks to music and art for inspiration.
Vice Versa is known for single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from famous sites, including Beckstoffer To Kalon, Dr. Crane, Las Piedras and GIII, plus blends such as The Magnificent Seven. Philippe Melka has consulted since 2014 with Maayan Koschitzky of Atelier Melka, and winemaker Spencer Kelly, eight years the winemaker at Eisele Vineyard, arrived for the 2024 harvest.
In 2019 Vice Versa bought an estate vineyard in the northwest corner of the Calistoga AVA, planted between 1998 and 2000 on what the winery calls Calistoga's highest share of volcanic soils, and built a winery there with a 4,950-square-foot cave and a hospitality area. Tastings are private and focused, by appointment only, arranged by email or phone. We make the request and plan the day around the time offered.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Vice Versa does not publish a tasting fee.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
