Pietro and Francesca Tedeschi left Pisa, Italy, in 1899 and moved to Calistoga full-time in 1919, where they opened the Pisa Farms Resort. Their son Eugene bought the family's current property in the 1950s, when it was walnut and prune orchards, and planted Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah between the trees. His son Emil came home in 1991 to start the family winery.
Before that, Emil moved to Maui in 1974 to co-found Tedeschi Vineyards, which the family describes as one of Hawaii's best-known wineries. Today he makes the wines with his sons Emilio and Mario and his daughter Elaine. The winery makes about 2,000 cases a year of Old World-style wines, from Petite Sirah and estate Cabernet Sauvignon to less common grapes like Valdiguié, Carignane and Barbera.
Tastings are held outdoors in the garden, in a rustic setting near the original winery building and barrel cellar, about 5 minutes north of downtown Calistoga. The Estate Tasting pours at least four wines, and the people pouring them also help make them. On weekdays, a walking tour takes small groups through the estate Cabernet vineyard, the crush pad and the barrel room. Families and dogs are welcome.
$35 for the Estate Tasting, 60 to 90 minutes, refundable with each 2-bottle purchase. $65 for the Vineyard & Crushpad Tour, 90 minutes, Monday to Friday at 11:15 a.m. and 3 p.m., refundable with each 3-bottle purchase. Non-drinkers can join the tour for $40.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
