Picayune Cellars was founded in 2011 by the winemaker Claire Weinkauf with her friend Jennifer Roberts. Claire grew up in the Auvergne in France, worked harvests in St-Émilion and the Rhône and then worked with Paul Hobbs in Argentina and California before devoting herself to Picayune.
The name means a little bit in regional French, and the winery works in the French négociant style, buying small lots of grapes and wine from friends across Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino. It makes about a dozen wines and a little over 3,500 cases a year, from Sauvignon Blanc and Albariño to Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Since 2023 it has been in a light-filled historic building on Lincoln Avenue, with two patios, a kitchen, a mercantile shop and a hat bar where guests can have a hat made while they taste. It is one of the most charming stops in downtown Calistoga.
$35 for the Classic Tasting of four wines and $55 for the Reserve Tasting of five limited-release wines, each about an hour. $75 for the food and wine pairing, not offered Tuesday or Wednesday.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
