Longtime friends Roger Louer and Robert Young set out in 1999 to build a first-class Cabernet Sauvignon brand from Howell Mountain, sourcing from a vineyard they developed together in 2000. The first vintage, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, was released in 2007, about 300 cases. Winemaker Barry Gnekow, who holds a master's degree in enology from UC Davis, has made the wines from the start.
Howell Mountain rises east of St. Helena from 1,400 to 2,200 feet, above the fog line, where volcanic soils and cooler days give concentrated fruit. In 2009 Roger Louer began a Louer Family Reserve Cabernet from his 34-acre estate in the St. Helena AVA, and from the 2012 vintage it has carried the R+R label. Current releases include the 2024 Louer Signature Series Cabernet, a Howell Mountain Zinfandel and a Napa Chardonnay.
Roberts + Rogers sells through its online store, gift boxes and the R+R Partner's Club, and orders can be picked up at the winery. It publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below heads up Howell Mountain to estates that do host.
Roberts + Rogers does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Roberts + Rogers does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, up on Howell Mountain and at its base. Meadowood, a resort at the foot of Howell Mountain, and Alila Napa Valley in St. Helena are each about 25 minutes from the first stop near the top of the mountain. The day runs a little past six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 25 minutes away. Acclaimed winemaker Bob Foley's small family winery near the top of Howell Mountain, where more than 1,000 barrels rest in a cave completed in 2008 and the permit allows only 10 guests a day. The tasting is $50, about an hour, with one fee refunded for every six bottles. By appointment, usually Thursday to Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
About 12 minutes away. An organic and biodynamic family estate on Howell Mountain, where a family member or the winemaker walks you through the hillside vines and hand-dug caves before a side-by-side flight of estate Cabernets. About 90 minutes; the fee is confirmed when we book. By appointment, Monday to Saturday.
About 20 minutes away. Lunch at Forum, the main restaurant at Meadowood at the foot of Howell Mountain, with seasonal dishes drawn from the Meadowood farm. Lunch is served on weekdays, with brunch on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. Winemaker Ric Forman's small estate on a ridge at the base of Howell Mountain, where a private seated tasting comes with a cave tour, 60 to 90 minutes. The fee is not published and is confirmed when the visit is arranged by email. By appointment, daily 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $50 per person for Robert Foley, plus the Neal Family and Forman fees, confirmed when we book; paid directly to each winery.
Robert Foley usually hosts Thursday to Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and Forman's last visits start around 3 p.m., so plan this day for Thursday to Saturday (Forum serves brunch on Saturday). The day runs a little past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour.
