Kirk Reid is a family physician whose Napa Valley roots go back to 1862, when his great-great-grandparents met at the Napa Hotel and settled near Calistoga. He and his wife Karen, a designer, turned a winemaking hobby that began in 1978 into Reid Family Vineyards, planting their first vineyard in 1992. Karen designed the labels, and their children Kevin, Kyla and Bay grew up on the property.
The estate began as a prune ranch in 1880, in the foothills of Mount Veeder just north of Carneros. Behind the winery a three-acre south-facing slope is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Viognier, farmed sustainably. Production is about 1,000 cases a year, aged in French and American oak.
The winery is redwood board and batten outside, built to blend with the old farm buildings, and inside it is patterned on a traditional French cellar, with plaster walls, concrete barrel rails and floor trenches filled with river rocks. Tastings are by appointment, and for groups of four or more the family offers BYOB: a tour, then filling, corking and labeling your own bottles.
Reid Family Vineyards does not publish its tasting fee. Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
