About the Winery

Robert Keenan bought 180 acres on Spring Mountain in 1974, including the old Peter Conradi Winery, a stone winery built in 1904 that the Conradi family sold in 1930. He revived the estate and rebuilt the winery inside the old stone walls. His son Michael has led the estate since 1998, and grandson Reilly Keenan is now part of the winemaking team.

The estate sits 1,700 feet above the valley floor on the eastern slope of the Mayacamas range in the Spring Mountain District. Of its 236 acres, 58 are planted and the rest is left wild. Keenan is best known for mountain Merlot and Cabernet Franc alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, and solar panels have powered most of the winery since 2007.

Visits are relaxed and personal. Hosts such as tasting room manager Laura March, here since 1996, pour current release and reserve wines around the restored stone winery, which has an indoor fireplace and a balcony over the vines. Tastings last about 75 minutes. Well-mannered dogs are welcome, and guests who buy a bottle can picnic at the outdoor table overlooking the vineyard.

Tasting Fees

$50 for the estate tasting of current release and reserve wines, about 75 minutes. The fee can be applied to a wine purchase of $50 or more, and non-tasters are free.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

10:00 · Pickup at Alila Napa Valley or Harvest Inn

Keenan opens at 10 a.m. and sits about 15 minutes up Spring Mountain Road from Alila Napa Valley, a Hyatt resort in downtown St. Helena, and about 18 minutes from Harvest Inn, a vineyard-side resort at the south end of town. A 10:00 pickup puts you at the winery for a tasting at about 10:15. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Keenan Winery

The seated estate tasting, about 75 minutes ($50, applied to a purchase of $50 or more). Ask about the Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the wines the estate is best known for.

11:45 · Louis M. Martini Winery

About 15 minutes away. A St. Helena landmark built in 1933 and restored in 2019 by architect Howard Backen. The Taste of Martini Flight is $55, with an optional $15 cheese board. Reservations recommended; open Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

1:00 · Lunch at Mustards Grill

About 12 minutes away. Lunch at Mustards Grill on Highway 29 just north of Yountville, a Napa Valley original since 1983 and open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:20 · Regusci Winery

About 12 minutes away. A family ranch in the Stags Leap District whose 1878 Occidental Winery, a three-story gravity-flow building, is one of Napa Valley's ghost wineries. The hosted Legacy Patio Tasting is $65 and the self-guided Terrace Experience is $45. Reservations recommended; 21 and over; open until 4 p.m.

3:25 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:50 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Optional: Markham Vineyards

Adds about an hour and a half. Just north of downtown St. Helena on the way back, Markham pours Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon beside its 150-year-old stone cellar. Walk-ins are welcome for the Discovery of Napa tasting ($55, about 90 minutes); open daily until 5:30 p.m.

About $150 to $170 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Louis M. Martini is open Thursday to Monday; on a Tuesday or Wednesday we swap in another St. Helena winery. Regusci reserves the second Saturday of each month for its members, so on that day we choose another Stags Leap District winery.
