About the Winery

In 1976 Dale and Mary Sue Missimer, inspired by a cycling trip through the Loire Valley, bought a rundown walnut orchard and cow pasture in what became the Stags Leap District. They planted vines, built a home and raised their family there. Their granddaughter Sinead and her husband Travis Bullard, who met studying wine at Cal Poly, moved onto the property in 2010 and founded Missimer Winery in 2021.

The 46-acre parcel lies between the Napa River and other small Stags Leap estates, and it has been farmed by the same hands since the 1970s. It is the single source for the wine: a Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon, farmed by hand and made in small lots, with fewer than 250 cases each vintage. The first release was the 2021 Cabernet.

Allocations are offered only to the mailing list, and the family sells from a post office box in Yountville. Missimer publishes no tasting program or visiting address, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.

10:00 · Pickup at Hotel Yountville or Hotel Villagio

Since Missimer does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Both hotels are in Yountville, about 5 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about seven hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Elyse Winery

About 5 minutes away. A small Hoffman Lane winery making vineyard-designate Zinfandel and Cabernet since 1985, poured in a casual, intimate room south of Yountville. Tastings are $75 and up; we plan about an hour. By appointment.

11:30 · Gargiulo Vineyards

About 12 minutes away. A family estate on the Oakville Crossroad with a guitar gallery, where each visit is a private, seated tasting of the estate Cabernets with a tour of the property, in the tasting room or on the terrace. The fee is confirmed when the appointment is made; we plan about 75 minutes. By appointment only.

1:00 · Lunch at Lucy Restaurant and Bar

About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Lucy, the restaurant at Bardessono on Yount Street in Yountville, with a seasonal menu drawn from the hotel's organic garden. Lunch is served daily until 2 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:35 · Palmaz Vineyards

About 20 minutes away. A family estate east of Napa with an underground winery, and guests love the guided cave tour. The Private Tour and Portfolio Tasting is $150 per person for about two hours. By appointment only.

4:35 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 5:00 p.m., about seven hours after pickup.

From about $225 per person in published tasting fees for Elyse and Palmaz, paid directly to each winery; Gargiulo confirms its fee when the appointment is made.

The two-hour cave tour at Palmaz makes this a long day, back by about 5:00 p.m. For a shorter day, we can swap Palmaz for a one-hour tasting closer to Yountville.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
