About the Winery

Mending Wall is a boutique, family-owned winery on the Silverado Trail. Its proprietors are Frank Dotzler, who co-founded Outpost Winery, Mark Pulido and Donna Walker, and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. They broke ground on the estate winery in April 2014 and brought in the first harvest there that fall. The name comes from Robert Frost's poem, which the winery reads as a reminder that boundaries can also be points of connection.

The 20-acre estate, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, sits in the far northeast corner of the St. Helena AVA, just south of the Calistoga appellation line. Brown also works with vineyards across the valley, from the Tofanelli family's dry-farmed Calistoga vineyard, farmed since the 1920s, to the East Block at Detert in Oakville, which the winery describes as widely regarded as Napa Valley's first Cabernet Franc planting.

Visits are by appointment only and kept small. The Estate Tasting walks through the current releases and the story of the winery, and the Collectors Tasting focuses on single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Both run 60 to 90 minutes at the estate, which is the winery's home for hospitality and tasting. A credit card holds the reservation.

Tasting Fees

$85 for the Estate Tasting and $125 for the Collectors Tasting, each 60 to 90 minutes. Groups of 7 to 12 pay $95 and $135.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
