Michael and Alexandra Marston bought the old Menasco Ranch on Spring Mountain in 1976, when vines from the turn of the century were still in production. In the early 1980s small lots were made by Andre Tchelistcheff and Philip Togni, Sean Thackrey made his 1992 Sirius Petite Sirah from the property, and after a 1993 replant most of the Cabernet went to Beringer for its Private Reserve. The family started its own label in 1998 with Philippe Melka as winemaker; Marbue Marke is the winemaker, and Elizabeth Marston became proprietor in 2017.
The estate sits on the southern slopes of the Spring Mountain District, high above St. Helena, with about 40 acres planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon. Alongside the estate Cabernet, Marston makes Albion, a Sauvignon Blanc from two rows at Gamble Family Vineyard in Yountville that began with a handshake with Tom Gamble in 2009, and a Petite Sirah from Sundance Vineyard in Calistoga.
The family lost its historic Ghost Winery and residences in the Glass Fire, and the property is closed to visitors while it rebuilds; the Spring Mountain District's 2025 map lists Marston as having no tasting available. The wines are sold through the mailing list and website, which also mentions private tastings by appointment at Studio 1299A in St. Helena; we confirm that option directly before planning around it. The day below goes to three family estates on Spring Mountain and its foothills.
Marston does not offer tastings at the estate. On the day below, expect about $235 per person: $75 at Stony Hill, $60 at Paloma and $100 at Behrens.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
