JAX is a brother-and-sister winery. Their father, David Jackson, followed a lifelong dream to own a vineyard north of Calistoga, and Trent Jackson picked the first JAX grapes in 1995, experimenting with winemaking in his San Francisco garage. Kimberly Jackson, a Vanderbilt MBA, took over the business in 2003, and JAX has grown from 200 cases to about 22,000. Their mother, Jane, an artist and designer, shaped the labels and look.
The estate sits on Highway 128 at the north end of the valley, in the Calistoga AVA. Kirk Venge, a Napa native and second-generation winemaker who trained under his father, Nils Venge, has worked with the JAX vineyards since 2003. The family also runs a tasting room on Brannan Street in San Francisco's SoMa, so many city guests meet JAX before they ever reach Napa.
At the Calistoga estate everything is by appointment: a one-hour private tasting of current releases with artisanal cheeses, overlooking the estate hillsides, plus a seasonal alfresco lunch with an estate tour and JAX Wellness, a yoga flow followed by a tasting. JAX does not publish its Calistoga fees, so we confirm them when we book.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. JAX does not publish prices for its Calistoga experiences: a one-hour private tasting with cheeses, a seasonal alfresco lunch with an estate tour, and JAX Wellness.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
