About the Winery
Institution was established in 2018 at 2100 Hoffman Lane, growing out of the owners' decade-long relationship with winemaker Russell Bevan. The winery describes its approach as zero compromise, and it keeps a low profile: a short list of wines, a mailing list, and tastings by appointment rather than an open tasting room.
Russell Bevan is the draw for many collectors. He came to wine as a writer, with a syndicated column, before making wine himself from 2004, and HQ Winery notes his thirty-one 100-point wines. Hoffman Lane runs through the vineyards just south of Yountville, inside the Yountville AVA, between Highway 29 and the hills.
Tastings are held at HQ Winery, the working winery on Hoffman Lane, and are booked through Tock or by contacting the team to request an Institution tasting. Parties are small, up to six, and the price on Tock runs from $75 to $200 depending on the experience. It is a winemaker-focused visit rather than a showplace, which suits guests who care most about what is in the glass.
