About the Winery

Gamling and McDuck are pseudonyms for Gabrielle Shaffer and Adam McClary, a Minnesota couple who moved to Napa in 2008 and started their wine label soon after, according to Visit Napa Valley. The winery's motto is "serious wines for silly people," and the tasting room on Second Street in downtown Napa is as playful as that sounds.

The winery focuses on Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc and makes about 2,000 cases a year. You will not find the wines in shops: they are sold only at the tasting room, through the wine club and at a few local restaurants. That makes a visit the easiest way to taste the range.

McClary drew a comic book telling the history of the label, and it runs across the tasting room walls. The standard tasting pours five wines, and in the winery's own words, six or seven "if the staff likes you," with old-school tunes playing. It is a fun, easygoing stop that balances a day at grander estates.

Tasting Fees

$35 for The Tasting, five wines (sometimes six or seven). $75 for The CLUB Tasting, for members and those thinking of joining.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
