Dorsey is a new project from Thomas Rivers Brown, the winemaker behind Rivers-Marie, Schrader and many other celebrated Napa labels. It launched in January 2026, and Wine Spectator reported it is his first solo venture with no outside investors. The name comes from the maternal side of his family, and the motto is quam bene non quantum: not how much, but how well.
The project began in early 2023, when Tom Garrett offered him four small pieces of his family's Detert Vineyard in Oakville, inside the To Kalon vineyard. Brown harvested two blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and two of Cabernet Franc, including old Cabernet Franc vines planted in 1979. Wine Spectator reported 330 cases of 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon and 110 of Cabernet Franc, both in new oak.
Dorsey has no tasting room and does not receive visitors. The website is a sign-up page for the mailing list, with contact by phone, text or email. To taste wines from the same famous ground, this day takes you to Oakville and Rutherford estates that do host.
Dorsey does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Bardessono or Hotel Yountville.
Since Dorsey does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Bardessono, an eco-luxury hotel on Yountville's main street, and Hotel Yountville, a stone-walled inn at the edge of town, are both about 10 minutes from Oakville. The day below runs a little over six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 10 minutes away. Celebrated To Kalon Cabernet, made by Thomas Rivers Brown and poured at the To Kalon Collective in Oakville. The Schrader Cellars Experience is $195 plus an 18% hospitality fee, five wines with small plates; we plan about 90 minutes. By reservation on Tock, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
About 8 minutes away. A Rutherford family estate devoted to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon since 1972. The Founder's Tasting is $150: a guided walk through the vineyards and gardens, then a seated tasting with cheese and charcuterie; we allow about 90 minutes. By appointment only.
About 15 minutes away. Lunch at R+D Kitchen, a relaxed Yountville spot with a sushi bar and a patio, open for lunch daily. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. The eastern Oakville bench vineyard behind Riverain's Reserve, where Margaret Tench and Rem Reigersman built a winery with caves in 2017 beside an oak knoll where red-tailed hawks hunt. Visits take about two hours and cover the winery, caves and vineyard; any fee is confirmed when the family sets the appointment. By prior appointment, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Back by about 5:15 p.m., a long day of about seven hours.
About $345 per person for Schrader (plus its 18% hospitality fee) and Sullivan Rutherford, plus Tench's fee, which is confirmed when we book. Fees are paid directly to each winery.
Tench's estate visit runs about two hours, so this day runs to about 5:15 p.m.; we add the extra hour to your booking, or swap Tench for a shorter tasting.
