Dolum Estates describes itself as born "after 30 years of winemaking" to make limited quantities of Napa Valley red wine. It was built on the winemaking of Chad Alexander, a Napa winemaker for more than three decades, and the winery says it is now entering a new chapter with Robert Smith as winemaker. The winery does not publish its owners' names.
The fruit comes from small Napa Valley sub-districts, including Oakville, the Stags Leap District and Rutherford. One source is a low-yielding Oakville vineyard on the Oakville Cross Road, on the east side of the AVA, planted in 1979 and still tended by second- and third-generation family members, with sandy loam over red clay and limestone. The wines carry cask numbers: the Oakville Cask #3, Rutherford Cask #14, Cask #28 and a multi-vintage Cask #18 that The Tasting Panel scored 95 points.
There is no tasting room. Dolum Estates is not open to the public and does not receive visitors. The wines are sold online through the winery's website, with the current Cabernets from about $60 to $140 a bottle. The day below takes you to three estates near Napa that do host, from a cave tour in Coombsville to the Stags Leap District and the Rutherford bench.
Dolum Estates does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Dolum Estates does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Silverado Resort, at the foot of Atlas Peak, is about 12 minutes from the first stop, and Milliken Creek Inn, a small inn on the Napa River, about 15. The day runs about seven hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 12 minutes away. A family estate in Coombsville with a multi-level winery built into the hillside; guests love the private guided cave tour before a seated tasting with hors d'oeuvres from the estate chef. The Private Tour & Portfolio Tasting is $150 per person; allow 2 hours. By reservation request.
About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. A small family estate on the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District, the same district Dolum draws on, with an estate Cabernet and a reserve named for the family's Staffordshire Bull Terrier. By appointment only; fees to be verified upon reservation. We plan about an hour.
About 12 minutes away. A family winery on the Rutherford bench making wine since 1969, where the ZD Experience starts with a private cellar tour and ends with Reserve or library wines and cheese and charcuterie in the Vineyard View Room, looking across the valley. $125, about 90 minutes. Appointment required; 21 and over.
Back by about 5:00 p.m.
About $275 per person at Palmaz and ZD, plus the fee Malk confirms when the appointment is made, paid directly to each winery.
Malk sets its own appointment times, so the afternoon order may shift once it confirms. For a shorter day, ZD's Vineyard View Tasting ($50, about an hour) brings you back about 30 minutes sooner.
