Ignacio Delgadillo Sr. started in the wine business in 1975 at Freemark Abbey, where he became cellar master, then worked as a private vineyard contractor and ran a custom wood packaging business. In 2001 he and his son, Ignacio Jr., started their own label. As the family puts it, Delgadillo Cellars began with a 30-year history already behind it.
The first releases came from Mill Creek Vineyard, a dry-farmed 2.5-acre site on the west side of the Napa River between St. Helena and Calistoga, with Cabernet vines planted between 1971 and 1976, budded mostly from Nathan Fay's vineyard near Stags Leap. The family farms it themselves, along with a vineyard in Coombsville. Each Cabernet spends several years in French oak and three more in bottle before release.
Tastings are private and seated, with the proprietors, at the family's tasting room in a south Napa business park, in the Napa Valley AVA. You hear the story and the winemaking firsthand, which is the reason to come. Requests go in at least 48 hours ahead; groups of six or fewer are preferred, and larger groups can be arranged with notice.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Delgadillo does not publish its tasting fee online.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
