Oak Knoll District · Napa Valley
A family winery with the look of a Tuscan villa in the Oak Knoll District, with a cobblestone courtyard and ATV rides through the vines, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Angelo Pera began making wine in his garage more than 30 years ago and founded Backstage in 2010. It is a family-owned winery in the Oak Knoll District, and Angelo still makes each wine by hand, working alongside his family: Olivia Pera is assistant winemaker and Matt Pera runs marketing and hospitality.
The style is small-batch with an Italian influence. The estate has 50 acres of grapes, and Angelo also buys from trusted growers across Napa Valley, often from plots of just one or two acres, so most bottlings are single-vineyard wines. Cabernet Sauvignon is the cornerstone, alongside Oak Knoll Chardonnay and Los Carneros Pinot Noir. The family also runs Backstage Wine Bar in Larkspur.
The winery sits on the valley floor surrounded by vines and looks like a Tuscan villa, a nod to Angelo's Italian roots. You can taste in the cobblestone courtyard, beside the vineyard or inside at a table or the bar. Guests who want more than a flight book the ATV Vineyard Education Tour, a ride through the vines with a host, ending with five wines in the tasting room.
$45 and up for The Estate Tasting, a seated tasting of five wines, or The Backstage Flight. $140 for the ATV Vineyard Education Tour & Tasting, about 90 minutes, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

The day fits about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

About 8 minutes away. A hillside estate in the Yountville AVA where the visit takes in the deep underground caves and a castle-style tasting room with vaulted ceilings of 18th-century brick. The Classic Experience of five or more wines is $175; we allow about 90 minutes. By appointment, Tuesday to Saturday.
Back by about 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.
About $295 to $390 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
