Avril Taylor was born from four barrels of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in 2009, when the Pitzer family of Dallas set out to make wine for family and friends. As interest grew, they expanded production. The name joins the middle names of sister and brother Alison Avril Pitzer Mesec and Austin Taylor Pitzer; Avril is also their mother Dennie Avril Pitzer's maiden name, from a German family whose winemaking history dates to the late 1800s, and the label carries the Avril family crest.
Today the family focuses on limited quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and rosé from the Napa Valley. The wine club has two releases a year, Chardonnay in March and Cabernet Sauvignon in September, at three, six or twelve bottles, with a 15% discount.
Avril Taylor is based in Dallas, with no tasting room in Napa Valley, so it does not receive visitors. Club wines ship to a short list of states or can be picked up at Times Ten Cellars in Dallas. The day below spends a day in the heart of Napa Valley, among the Oakville and Rutherford estates whose Cabernet made the valley famous.
Avril Taylor does not offer tastings.
On the day below, tastings are $60 at Robert Mondavi (plus an 18% hospitality fee), $65 at Silver Oak and $60 at Grgich Hills, paid directly to each winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About 15 minutes away. Founded by the winemaker behind the Judgment of Paris Chardonnay, and farmed organically. Miljenko's Tasting is $60, about 90 minutes. Open daily 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; seated tastings by reservation.
Back in Yountville by about 4:00 p.m., about six hours after pickup.
About $185 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, plus Mondavi's 18% hospitality fee, paid directly to each winery.
All three wineries are open daily. Robert Mondavi asks for bookings at least a week ahead for Friday to Sunday, so we reserve it first.
