About the Winery

Woodhawk Vineyards is owned by Michael and Kara, who bought the property in 2020 after 20 years of dreaming about a vineyard. Michael spent more than 30 years in public relations and corporate communications, and Kara, also from public relations, now coaches fitness part-time. The 70-acre hilltop property looks south over the Alexander Valley and the Russian River at the northern end of Sonoma County, at about 1,000 feet.

The vineyard is 21 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in six blocks, about 24,000 vines replanted in 2015 and 2016 after red blotch, on Laughlin loam. Woodhawk describes itself as farmers first: at more than 70 tons a year, it is one of the largest independent growers for Silver Oak's Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It has now made its own wine too, with 150 cases of 2023 Woodhawk Vineyards Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a 2024 in barrel and the 2025 on the vine.

There is no tasting room, and Woodhawk does not receive visitors; the house can be rented through a vacation rental listing. To hear about releases and future events, join the interest list on the website. The day below stays in the northern Alexander Valley, including Silver Oak's Alexander Valley winery, which pours the wine Woodhawk's grapes go into.

Tasting Fees
