About the Winery

Soda Rock's history on Highway 128 goes back to 1869, when Fred Wentworth ran a general store on the property, and the first bonded winery opened there in 1880. The Ferrari and Ferrero families took over in 1923, and Leo and Rose Demostene, the daughter of Abele Ferrari, ran it from 1943 until 1973, when they built a new winery a few miles away and closed Soda Rock.

After years of neglect the property had fallen into disrepair when Ken and Diane Wilson bought it in 2000. Ken spent about a decade restoring the stone buildings and the water tower, using recycled and green materials wherever he could. The wines are made mostly from Bordeaux varieties grown in Alexander Valley.

The 2019 Kincade Fire destroyed the main tasting building, and tastings moved to the historic Wedding Barn on the property. Guests sit at private tables with vineyard views for the Daily Flight, and walk-ins are welcome. The winery also pours in downtown Healdsburg, at Old Roma Station on Hudson Street.

Tasting Fees

$25 for the Daily Flight of at least five mostly Bordeaux-style wines, waived with a two-bottle purchase and complimentary for club members.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
