About the Winery

Ridge Vineyards was founded in 1962 by four engineers from the Stanford Research Institute, whose first commercial wine was a Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Paul Draper joined as winemaker in 1970 and led Ridge for 47 vintages, and the 1971 Monte Bello was poured at the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Otsuka Pharmaceutical of Japan has owned Ridge since the 1980s.

Ridge first bottled a Lytton Springs Zinfandel in 1972 and bought the vineyard in 1990. It was planted in the early 1900s to Zinfandel with Petite Sirah and Carignane, and the Lytton Springs field blend is one of California's most age-worthy Zinfandel-based wines.

The winery here is built from straw bales and vineyard clay and runs mostly on solar power. Seated tastings look out over the old vines, and the menu runs from a five-wine estate flight to Monte Bello Cabernet and walks through the century-old vineyard.

Tasting Fees

$35 for the Lytton Springs Estate Tasting of five single-vineyard wines, about 75 minutes. $65 for the Century Tour & Library Tasting and $75 for the Monte Bello Cabernet tasting, each for 4 to 12 adults. $125 for the From Vine to Table food pairing or the seasonal Historic Vineyard Tour.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
