Ludor Wines was founded in 2019 by the De La Cruz Meza family, who have worked in the Sonoma Valley wine industry for more than 30 years. Salvador De La Cruz Sr. came to the United States from Jalisco, Mexico, in 1976, worked the table-grape vineyards around Reedley and then moved to Sonoma, where he went to work full time at Haywood Vineyards. Over more than 40 years he has managed vineyards for Haywood, Walsh Vineyard Management and the Weiler Twins Vineyards, and he is now Ludor's viticulturist.
His son, Salvador De La Cruz Jr., began working in the vineyards beside him at nine, after the family moved to Sonoma in 2000, and never missed a harvest. At 20 he moved into the cellar, then earned a degree in viticulture and enology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the first in his family to go to college, and worked at wineries in Sonoma, Napa, New Zealand and Australia before becoming Ludor's winemaker.
Ludor makes small lots of single-vineyard wine from the Weiler Vineyard on the Sonoma Valley floor, with gravelly loam soils cooled by evening breezes from San Pablo Bay. There is no tasting room: the wines are sold online, by pre-order and through the wine club, and the family answers questions by email. For a day in the valley, we take you instead to three estates that host guests.
Ludor Wines does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:50 a.m. from a Sonoma hotel such as Ledson Hotel or MacArthur Place.
Ledson Hotel, on the east side of the Sonoma Plaza, and MacArthur Place, a few blocks south of the plaza, are each about 5 minutes from Platt Vineyard's salon, the first stop. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
Since Ludor does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after wineries in the valley that do. About 5 minutes away. The Sonoma salon of Platt Vineyard, planted in 2003 by former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Lewis Platt among the redwoods of the West Sonoma Coast and owned since 2022 by AXA Millésimes, the French owner of Château Pichon Baron. The private, seated Monopole Reserve Tasting of four estate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays is $75, about 90 minutes. By appointment, Tuesday to Saturday.
About 30 minutes away. A steakhouse, seafood grill and oyster bar among the vineyards on the Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, with craft cocktails and tables overlooking a koi pond. Lunch is served Thursday to Tuesday from 11 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 5 minutes away. Brion and Ronda Wise's Moon Mountain estate, planted in 2002 beside the historic Monte Rosso Vineyard, pours its mountain Cabernet and Petite Sirah in the B. Wise Tasting Lounge on the Sonoma Highway. The lounge is open to the public daily, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the fee is confirmed when we book.
About 5 minutes away. One of the few wineries in the Moon Mountain District that makes only estate wines, from 40 acres of terraced hillside vines that Ty Caton planted, often with a jackhammer, in volcanic rock. Flights in the Kenwood tasting room are $25 to $35. Walk-ins welcome, reservations encouraged; open daily 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., last tasting at 5.
Back in Sonoma by 4:55 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Platt's salon is open Tuesday to Saturday and Salt+Stone serves lunch every day but Wednesday, so this day works Thursday to Saturday, or Tuesday.
About $100 to $110 per person in tasting fees for Platt and Ty Caton, paid directly to each winery. The B. Wise lounge fee is to be verified upon reservation.
