Homefire is a small Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel producer that has been making wine for about 20 years, by hand, in Healdsburg. In its own words, Zinfandel is 'a misunderstood story looking for its place among its noble cousins,' and Homefire sets out to deliver its great promise and expressive voice.
The wines move from vineyard to winery to bottle with minimal intervention, from naturally farmed grapes. The estate Homefire Vineyard is farmed organically and planted to a St. Peter's Church clone of Zinfandel, first grown outside a church in Cloverdale in the early 1900s, and Mia's Secret is a mountain site 1,200 feet above the valley, reached across a couple of streams and a washed-out road. Bottlings have included Old Vine, Firework and Daydream Zinfandels and a Grenache rosé.
There is no tasting room. Homefire hosts private tastings at its Healdsburg vineyard, arranged by email, and for the 2027 harvest it plans a Crush Experience for ten people, who will pick and crush grapes and later help bottle the wine. We arrange the tasting for you and confirm the time when booking.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About 10 minutes away. Swedish couple Katarina Bonde and Bengt Akerlind's family winery, founded in 1998, with a tasting room under a huge oak beside the vineyard; their Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve was served at the Nobel banquet in 2010. Flights of four or five wines are $30 or $45, and guests can take a free self-guided walk through the vines with a map from the tasting room. Open Friday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; reservations recommended.
About 10 minutes away. James Beard finalists Mark and Terri Stark's tapas bar on Center Street, steps from the Healdsburg plaza, with paella, Spanish wines and tables indoors or outside. About 10 minutes away. Ben and Kelly vanZutphen's farm where Dry Creek meets the Russian River Valley, making fewer than 500 cases a year. The private Estate Experience starts with rosé in the greenhouse, moves to the barn for Chardonnay and Cabernet with local charcuterie and cheese, and, weather permitting, ends in Adirondack chairs on the bank of Dry Creek: 1.5 hours, $90, for groups of 4 to 12. Reservations required, by email.
Back in Healdsburg by 4:00 p.m.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. West Wines is open Friday to Monday and van Z hosts groups of 4 to 12, so this day works Friday to Monday for at least 4 guests.
About $120 to $135 per person at West Wines and van Z, paid directly to each winery; Homefire's tasting fee is to be verified upon reservation.
