About the Winery

Matthew Wallace Wines is the label of grower Matt Hardin, whose family has farmed and ranched in Napa County for six generations, since 1852. Matt manages vineyards across the county. He started the label to follow his fruit all the way to the glass, and says that making wine would make him a better farmer.

The wines are made by Thomas Rivers Brown, who has worked with Matt for about fifteen years on labels such as Outpost, Pulido-Walker and Caterwaul. Each wine comes from one site: Sauvignon Blanc from Hardin Ranch, Cabernet Sauvignon from Wallace Ranch, where Matt grew up, from Block 1 of the Regusci Vineyard in the Stags Leap District, and from new plantings on Pritchard Hill.

You taste at Royal We, a tasting room on Main Street in downtown St. Helena, in the St. Helena AVA. It pours the wines Brown makes for several small labels, including Matthew Wallace, Caterwaul, Aston, RIV and Switchback Ridge. The Matthew Wallace Tasting is a seated flight of six wines from Matthew Wallace and RIV, open every day of the week.

Tasting Fees

Royal We offers a $25 bar tasting (up to 4 guests) and $40 to $50 collective tastings across its labels. $50 for the Matthew Wallace Tasting, six wines from Matthew Wallace and RIV, seated (up to 6 guests).

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
