Bougetz Cellars is the family winery of Tom and Joan Bougetz, who met as students at Iowa State University and later settled in Seattle, where their interest in wine began. Tom is the winemaker and spends much of his time in the vineyards with the growers. Joan built a 30-year career in property management across the western United States and has been part of the business from the start, often hosting its events.
The wines are built around place. Bougetz sources Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties from valley floor vineyards in Rutherford and Oakville and from hillside sites on Spring Mountain, Prichard Hill and Coombsville. The Amaryllis Cabernet comes from a three-acre Spring Mountain vineyard planted in 2001. There is also a Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc and a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.
The tasting room sits on the Silverado Trail just outside downtown St. Helena, and the mood is relaxed. The Switchback Tasting pours a broad mix of current releases. The Ascent Reserve Tasting sets Cabernet Sauvignons from different Napa Valley AVAs side by side, many of them very small production, so you can taste how the same grape changes from place to place.
$45 for the Switchback Tasting of current releases, 60 to 90 minutes. $65 for the Ascent Reserve Tasting, a side-by-side look at Cabernet Sauvignon from different Napa Valley AVAs, 90 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
