David Hirsch, a garment maker in the 1970s, bought a sheep ranch on the far Sonoma Coast in 1978 and planted his first vines there in 1980. By the 1990s the vineyard had become famous through vineyard-designated bottlings from Littorai, Williams Selyem, Kistler and Failla.
In 2002, after 22 years of farming, David and his wife Marie built a winery so they could taste and bottle each of the vineyard's 60 farming parcels on their own. The estate now holds 90,000 vines on 72 acres, and Everardo Robledo has managed the vineyard since 1988. David's daughter Jasmine joined in 2008, became general manager in 2015 and winemaker in 2019, and the family-owned winery describes itself as woman-led.
The vineyard itself is closed to the public, so visits take place at the Hirsch tasting room in the historic Old Roma Station building near downtown Healdsburg. The private Beyond the Fault Line tasting pours some of the estate's most limited wines, including the San Andreas Fault Estate Pinot Noir.
$45 for Discover Hirsch, a communal tasting of four wines, 45 minutes. $75 for Beyond the Fault Line, a private tasting of five limited wines, 60 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
