About the Winery
RIV is the personal label of Alicia Regusci, whose great-grandfather Gaetano bought the Regusci property in the Stags Leap District in 1932. Her grandfather Angelo held on to the ranch through hard times, and her father took over its farming after high school. After a degree in wine business and years in winemaking, farming, sales and hospitality, she started RIV to tell the family land's story her own way.
The wine is a Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon from two of the Regusci vineyard's best plots: Block 1, at the foot of the eastern hillside, and Block 3, where volcanic and alluvial soils meet. Her husband, Matt Hardin, farms the vineyard, and her friend Thomas Rivers Brown makes the wine. The 2021 spent 20 months in French oak, 85 percent of it new.
RIV has no estate tasting room. It pours at Royal We Wines, a collective tasting room on Main Street in downtown St. Helena, in the St. Helena AVA, that opened in July 2025. Every label there is made by Thomas Rivers Brown, including Caterwaul, Matthew Wallace, Aston Estate, Switchback Ridge, Maybach and McCoy Estate. Guests choose a quick bar tasting or a seated flight.
Tasting Fees
$25 for the Bar Tasting, about 35 minutes. $40 to $50 for the Royal We Collective Tasting, 50 minutes to an hour. $50 for the seated Matthew Wallace Tasting, six wines from Matthew Wallace and RIV.

Stay close and the tasting starts right away. Harvest Inn, a vineyard-side hotel at the south end of St. Helena with fireplaces in many rooms, and Alila Napa Valley, a Hyatt luxury resort on the north side of town, are each a few minutes' drive from the tasting room. Royal We opens at 10 a.m. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

About 12 minutes away. A Rutherford winery on the Silverado Trail whose Abacus is a solera-style blend of every vintage of its Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon since 1992. The Vineyard View Tasting is $50 and runs about 60 minutes, with views across the valley. Reservations recommended; adults 21 and over only.

About 25 minutes away. A small family-owned estate high on Spring Mountain, where owner Sheldon Richards hosts the Home Sweet Home tasting in his living room or on the deck. Four wines for $60, about an hour. By appointment, and dogs are welcome.

Adds about an hour and a half. A Rutherford estate whose terrace looks across its fountains, a local landmark, to the Mayacamas Mountains. Walk-ins are welcome when space allows; tastings are $75 to $125 and about 90 minutes, and you choose your flight on arrival. Open daily, last seating at 4:30 p.m.
About $150 to $160 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Paloma Vineyard is open Monday to Saturday, so this day works as written on those days. On a Sunday we swap in another winery when you book.
