About the Winery

Terry and Nancy Klein made their first Allora wine in 1997 and bought their 15-acre estate in St. Helena the following year. It is still a family business. Their son Gale Klein Muters and his wife Kelly, along with Cortney and Christopher Klein, work alongside them, and Angelina Mondavi is the consulting winemaker. Allora is Italian for "and then," a name the family chose after several label names were turned down.

The vineyard sits on the valley floor in sandy loam with some clay, and it is farmed organically. It is planted to two clones of Cabernet Sauvignon plus small blocks of Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah. Production is about 1,200 cases a year, the wines are not distributed, and they are sold only by the winery. One special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon carries a label illustration by the artist Margaret Keane.

Allora has no public tasting room, but the family hosts tastings by appointment. Each visit is a 60 to 90-minute educational tasting of estate-grown wines, held in the winery's private wine libraries for one party at a time, up to six guests. Ehlers Lane can only be reached from Highway 29, and the winery notes that GPS apps and rideshare drivers often have trouble finding it, so a driver who knows the lane helps.

Tasting Fees

Allora offers one hosted tasting of estate wines, 60 to 90 minutes. The winery does not publish its tasting fee online; it is confirmed when the reservation is made.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A private, seated tasting of estate wines with the family's team, 60 to 90 minutes. We plan for the full 90 minutes so the visit never feels rushed.

11:55 · Freemark Abbey

About $100 per person in tasting fees for Freemark Abbey and Charles Krug, paid directly to each winery. Allora confirms its tasting fee when the reservation is made.
